Who we are looking for
A DevOps Architect to play a key role within the technical leadership of the DevOps function.

DevOps consists of several operational teams who collaborate to identify new principles, technologies and ways of working that can drive operational automation, increase monitoring sophistication and enhance provisioning and deployment pipelines. This is all with the aim of accelerating speed to market and improving site reliability. Assessing and ensuring System Health is at the core of what we do.

You will work with teams within the DevOps function and across Technology to progress initiatives, provide technical guidance and assure technical excellence. You will work with a broad objective to increase operational efficiency.

We are seeking someone who will help galvanise and accelerate our transformation. This will involve close collaboration with other Architects and technical engineers, using a diverse range of technologies to take on varied and complex challenges.

This role is eligible for inclusion in the Company’s hybrid working from home policy.
Preferred skills and experience
Excellent knowledge of contemporary monitoring, analytics tooling and best practice.
Strong experience with automation and orchestration platforms such as Ansible and Jenkins.
Excellent knowledge of SQL and programming languages including JavaScript, GoLang, Python, PowerShell.
Broad technical infrastructure experience at scale covering compute, storage, networking and security disciplines.
In depth understanding of modern platform stacks such as OpenStack, VMware, Kubernetes and affiliated technologies including IaC, SDN, load balancing, monitoring stacks, workflow and security instruments.
Solid working knowledge of software engineering principles and approaches eg. CI/CD, Agile.
Strong experience working in a large scale, 24/7 enterprise where system uptime and stability is of paramount importance to the business.
Experience of commercial and open source solutions, as well as experience with public and private Cloud.
Keen interest in industry trends, particularly DevOps.
Ability to work with autonomy but also collaborate well and work as part of a cross-functional team.

Main Responsibilities
Playing a key role in developing future architectures and technology choice decisions for DevOps and broader Infrastructure functions.
Providing leadership and governance to DevOps and other Infrastructure functions while they develop tooling and platforms using bespoke build and third party products, as well as utilising automation and orchestration platforms.
Overseeing and supporting teams while they build sophisticated monitoring solutions using log data, metrics and events in modern monitoring and graphing technologies eg. Grafana, Splunk, ELK, Nimsoft.
Producing POCs and assessing technologies against success criteria which you will help to determine.
Playing a key role in technical leadership of DevOps and other Infrastructure departments as we introduce increasing levels of automation, IaC and use of Private Cloud.
Aiding the levelling up of the IT Operations function, using principles from SRE and AIOps.
Governing and feeding back to management on quality of team output.
Mentoring colleagues in the use of new technologies and practices.
Collaborating with colleagues at all levels in DevOps, Development, Platform Delivery and IT Services teams to determine requirements and solutions, to solve problems and progress work.
Evangelising DevOps principles and practices to other areas of the Technology department.
